BELTAIN 2020
ID:I GALLERI STOCKHOLM
A week long transient piece which changed daily.
I was very happy to have been invited by Alexander Mood of ID:I Galleri in Stockholm to stage something during the Covid quarantine time ... after some thought I've decided to present one of my ritual performance pieces inside a closed gallery space, with the intention that this is not an act for a particular audience, rather to transform the galleri into a hierophanic space for the duration ....
The inside of the gallery was painted with ritual symbols and a magickal circle with the elements on the floor, within which I performed various rites.
Votive offerigs were added to an altar like assemblage over the course of the exhibition. Due to Covid restrictions I performed the Rites inside the gallery, viewed through the large glass window from the busy street outside.

A short film of this action was made in collaboration with Swedish artist Åsa Johansson
Rites of Spring - outtakes (digital film) a Systerisk collaboration with Swedish artist Åsa Johansson
Outtakes of the performance were filmed by Åsa and this was then shown as part of the innovatively curated Pythias Journals.

Original Exhibition text
Rite’s of Spring is a series of performative acts of embodiment, invocation and symbolic sacrifice, which blurs the line between artist and witch, fact and fiction, the sacred and profane. A liminal space is created in the middle of Södermalm, a momentary enclosed heterotopia amidst the ongoing consequences of the times we are now living through . these rites still take place, regardless of the presence of a physical audience.
You are invited to an act which doesn't propose to offer any solace, but a reminder ... a marking of time as the artist continues her work, committed to the turning of the wheel and recognition of the cycle of birth – death and rebirth.
The end being the beginning becoming the end
This is an act in 3 parts.
Friday 1st May at kl20, Sunday 3rd kl20, and then the last act the following Sunday kl19.
